In this role you will be accountable for contributing to developing overall, cross-functional programs of a growing renal disease area with multiple early assets and a multi-blockbuster with several renal indications – role focused on shaping assets with strong differentiation and commercial potential. There is a preference for renal expertise, ideally with some medical/clinical background to work in a cross-functional renal team that prioritizes the US market first with enhanced focus on major markets (e.g., China, Japan, Germany). The candidate will ensure close collaboration with Strategy & Growth, NIBR (research), GDD (development) and MAP (Medical & Access) teams.

Major responsibilities:
• Renal / multiple asset strategy aligned within Therapeutic Area (TA) strategy Leadership Team: Collaborating to ensure definition and execution of a competitive specialized renal strategy to establish Novartis as true industry leader within the Renal space
• Leader within Life cycle management for multi-billion-dollar brand via ensuring early indications are robust and prepared for future commercial launch landscape with robust evidence planning
• Asset shaping: Shaping market-relevant assets to become Standard of Care with development program that meet patient, physician and payer needs
• Collaborate to develop transformative, US-centric Target Product Profiles (TPPs) that are tangible, provide a clear guidance to the GDD organization on what level of evidence is required
• Make data-driven, decisive tradeoffs between needs of US and major markets (e.g., CN, JP, DE)
• Deliver integrated early brand strategies: Collaborate to ensure impactful, actionable early brand strategies until handover to launch teams, consolidating and aligning inputs and requirements across functions to achieve deep renal ecosystem understanding (patient journey, competitive, access landscape, HCS budget impact and cost effectiveness analysis)
• Provide expertise to BD&L activities
• Work in a diverse, high performance, cross-functionally matrixed team including identifying and integrating expertise and inputs required from other teams to ensure successful delivery

Role Requirements

What you'll bring to the role:
• At least 10 years senior level pharmaceutical medical, new product strategy or R&D experience successfully driving successful early pipeline development, asset shaping, evidence planning
• Renal disease area, pipeline familiarity


Preferred:
• Experience of strategy development and asset shaping early in lifecycle (marketing, new products, access, medical, clinical, R&D)
• Ad boards, nephrology network, renal PAGs
• Prior experience in launching specialty brand(s) in major market like US, Germany, Japan
• Significant (3+ years) and recent (post 2015) experience in above country (regional or global) role
• Significant (3+ years) and recent (post 2015) local US experience preferred; Local US experience includes working in the US market with the local US customers, US health care systems/ systems of care, US payors/ accounts, etc.), driving US market strategy
• Proven experience credibly interacting and influencing stakeholders in research and drug development
• Track record of successfully working within matrix of Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Market Access, as well as breaking down functional silos and managing complex trade-offs
